is there a way to tell what carrier a phone number belongs to? i attempted to do this via the database that nanpa.net (maybe com or org) gives. it worked alright some of the time, but a lot of the information seems to be out of date. and now with number portability, i don't see how that information would help me anyway.

is there a way to match up phone number with carrier? i mean.. there has to be a way.. isn't that how shortmail works? i've never had to specify what carrier the number i was texting was on.
